October is National Dental Hygiene Month

October is National Dental Hygiene Month!  As we enter Halloween “candy season,” it is important to keep your child’s dental hygiene in mind. A lifetime of healthy oral care starts with basic dental habits:

  • BRUSH 2 minutes 2 times a day! Brushing should begin as soon as your child’s teeth erupt into the mouth. Start your child’s day by brushing for 2 minutes. Set a 2 minute timer, or ry a dental app to make brushing fun & effective. Some examples are: Disney Magic Time or My Bright Smile! Encourage your child to keep up the good work each time they successfully brush for 2 minutes.

  • FLOSS between all teeth that touch. Make this a habit with your little one so they grow up adopting the habit. You should start flossing your baby’s teeth as soon as they erupt by using traditional floss or flossers with handles.
  • VISIT us for a dental check up every 6 months. Dental visits should begin by your baby’s 1st birthday. Our doctors will discuss important oral health care tips even at a young age.

As a Halloween season reminder, try to avoid giving your child gummy and sticky candies. These candies are top cavity causers!

Please remember that we have two offices to serve your child’s dental needs: one in Wilmington and one in Leland. We also have a bilingual doctor, Dr. Leone, on staff now too. Schedule your visit in either office by calling 910-794-2266. We look forward to seeing you!
